戊子春，重修校园绿地。雪松丛中，新筑木亭一座，六檐竞翘，恰似鲲鹏展翅。拾级登临，满目葱茏，岁寒三友欢聚，四时芳菲荟萃，犹若群贤毕至，众英争妍。忆西南模年月，诚聘四海贤达，广揽八方俊秀，倡导模范教育，推进成才策略。顷之，名师来归，学子向往，声誉鹊起，事业日上。嗟夫！林秀则景胜，贤至则业兴。余念此，乃欣然命名：揽秀亭
In spring 2008, the school Greenland was renovated. A newly-built wooden pavilion has been standing in the pine forest since then. The six eaves of the pavilion up-warp towards the sky, like a roc spreading the wings. Walking up the steps, you will see verdant growth of flowers and plants. In winter, pine trees, bamboos and plum blossoms flourish, happily gathering together. In four seasons, flowers and trees covered in blossoms in every corner, as if contending in beauty with each other. Recollecting the history of Southwest Model Middle School, we sincerely seek for prominent elites from home and abroad, welcome people with outstanding talent from all places, advocate model education and promote strategy of cultivating useful people. Before long, competent and qualified teacher are recruited and a great number of students are keen to study here. Southwest Model Middle School is gaining increasingly high reputation, and the business of the school is flourishing and becoming prosperous day by day. Ah! Shapely woods add beauty to the scenery and talented elites nourish the business. When thinking about this, I joyfully named the spot: Lan Xiu Pavilion.

六棵巍巍雪松成西南模生态林一景，三条弯弯小路从不同方向伸入其间。林中有一圆石桌，六圆石凳，周边有三座长条靠背木椅围绕。暑天酷热，烈日经密密松针层层遮蔽，犹如月光透进松林，柔和而舒适。人们走进松林，坐石凳，靠长椅，耳闻松涛声声，身披凉风习习，顿觉神清气爽。此情此景，有人戏称：“明月松间照”。
Six towering cedars form an ecological pine forest scenery in Shanghai Southwest Model Middle School, with three crescent paths leading to the beautiful spot from three different directions. There is a round stone table placed in the elegant forest, with six round stone stools and three wooden benches surrounding the table. In hot summer days, the burning sunlight is softened by the dense layers of pine needles, like the gentle and comfortable moonlight penetrating into the pine forest. Teachers and students walk into the pine tree forest, sitting on the stone stools, resting on the wooden benches, listening to the chorus of the pine trees, enjoying the cool gentle breeze, and feeling refreshed. The scene is depicted: “the bright moonlight is lit among the pine trees.”

校园西北角，一泓清水边，散落着许多千层岩石，或坐、或立，或卧、或倚，或聚、或叠，形态各异，错落有致。泉水从多处石缝中涌出，十数步外即闻水声潺潺。池中游鱼往来嬉戏，见人影倏忽汇集，似与游人聚会甚欢。池旁绿树茂盛，竹影疏朗，还置有圆石桌凳。一条青石板小路沿池而行，连接两侧紫藤廊架，人们经常落座歇息，既可观鱼赏景，也可思索、闲聊、读书、下棋……各有其乐，如石上清泉，怡然自得。
In the northwest corner of the campus, edged by a crystal-clear lake lies a pile of some thousand-layer rocks, which are sitting, standing, leaning, gathering round or folding up together in various shapes. A spring is gushing from the multiple rock crevices, the gurgling of which can be heard from ten steps away. Fishes are swimming and frolicking around in the pool, swiftly gathering together when seeing figures coming near, seemingly partying happily with passers-by. Next to the pool is a dense thicket of trees and thinly-scattered bamboos, with a round stone table and several stools placed nearby. A slate path marches along the pool, connecting frames of wisterias on both ends. Teachers and students are often seated around the pool, enjoying the scene of fishes to their satisfaction, thinking, chatting, reading or playing chess. Everyone is having a wonderful time there, just like the spring trickling down the rock, happy and pleased.

校园北侧东向，修竹丛林茂密，有一小道穿引其间，蜿蜒曲折，隐现晦明。时而有石桌石凳，时而见流水顽石，时而闻鸟鸣虫吟，道旁各色花卉杂陈，林间草木暗香浮动，步入木筑长亭，可驻足远眺，尤宜览书诵经。人们禁不住会沉吟起唐朝诗人常建名句：“曲径通幽处，禅房花木深”，因得“曲径通幽”、“花木深处”之名。
In the northeast corner of the campus, a narrow meandering footpath is threading through tall bamboos and thick forest, zigzagging, partly hidden and partly visible. The stone table and stools will come into view and so will the flowing stream and insensate stones. Sometimes birds are twittering and sometimes insects are chirping. Colorful flowers intersperse the footpath. Greenery emits a fresh aroma among the woodland. If you step into the wooden pavilion, you may ascend a height and enjoy a distant view, and the wooden pavilion is particularly suitable for reading books and studying literature. When walking along the footpath, a famous verse by CHANG Jian of Tang Dynasty will come into mind – “A winding path leads to a secluded spot where a profound Buddhist abode is hidden and surrounded by flowers and trees.” Thus, “Qu Jin Tong You” and “Hua Mu Shen Chu” are named.

校园东面有一木筑长亭，座落在曲径通幽处，掩映在花木丛林中。亭里设置长条木椅，虽是简朴,也可坐可靠，宜小憩，也宜读书,故儒生常临，白丁不屑。凭栏远眺，只见揽秀亭松青林茂，云蒸霞蔚，似乎凝聚天地间之灵气。人云：有山则仙，有水则灵。西南模傍水而居，占有先天之利，近年又积石成山，引水汇流，树木成林，自然得天地甘露滋养。今之西南模，名师云集，学子蜂拥；教书育人，学文习武；事业兴盛，人才辈出，世人誉为钟灵毓秀之地，“毓秀亭”因而得名。
In the east corner of the campus, a wooden pavilion is situated in a secluded spot, hidden in flowering shrubs and trees. Long benches, though simple, are placed in the pavilion and passers-by can take a break and relax, or read books there, attracting a number of studious students. If you lean on the railings, you will see green and lush pine forest, colorful and flourishing clouds, as if absorbed the aura from the universe and nature. It is said that any mountain can be famous with the presence of an immortal, and any river can be holy with the presence of a dragon. Southwest Model Middle School is close to holy water, which possesses priori dominance. With time passing by, lately, rocks have accumulated and become hills round the school, flowing streams have been converged and woods have grown into forest. The manna from nature has nourished every tree and every blade of grass of Southwest Model Middle School. Nowadays, competent teachers are gathering into Southwest Model Middle School, attracting a great number of students swarming in. Teachers impart knowledge and educate young learners. Students study culture and skills, and strengthen their physiques. Graduates with academic success and talent are cultivated at our school, and thus, Southwest Model Middle School is reputed to be a productive place turning out outstanding students endowed with great qualities to the world. YU Xiu Pavilion is named.

唐诗人李白《蜀道难》有诗句“连峰去天不盈尺，枯松倒挂倚绝壁”，此景似蜀道风光再现。《蜀道难》表现了诗人直面艰险百折不回的积极追求，“连峰绝壁”旨在告示人们：人生路上尽管有艰难如蜀道之险，但只要我们不断努力，脚下的奋斗成功之路就会不断延伸。
In LI Bai’s poem Hard Road to Sichuan, there is a verse reading: “With the highest crag barely a foot below heaven, dry pines are hanging, head down, from the cliff.” The view appears to be the reappearance of the scenery on the road to Sichuan. The poem Hard Road to Sichuan finely brought out the poet’s indomitable and proactive aspiration of success when facing hardships and dangers. The meaning of the verse is conducted to convey the principle that although the journey of life might be as dangerous and risky as the road to Sichuan, the road to success beneath our feet will be continuously expanding as long as we keep working hard.

“飞流直下三千尺，疑是银河落九天”是唐朝诗人李白脍炙人口的名句，描绘了瀑布一泻千丈势不可挡的壮观。“飞流直瀑”正取其意境，既有美的欣赏，更有力的感染和启示，人们自然会感悟到“有努力才有美”的哲理，这能成为西南模师生前进路上的座右铭。
“A waterfall is cascading down overwhelmingly from 3,000 feet above as though the Milky Way was overturned from the sky.” This is the verse which enjoys great popularity from the famous poet named LI Bai of Tang Dynasty, depicting the inexorable magnificence of the waterfall. “Fei Liu Zhi Pu” is taking its artistic concept, expressing the appreciation of beauty, the influence of power and enlightenment. Immersed in such an environment, one will realize the philosophy “no pains, no gains”, and this will become the motto for the teachers and students of Southwest Model Middle School.

日晷，又称“日规”，是我国古代利用日影测得时刻的计时仪器，是人类在天文计时领域的重大发明。校园北侧建日晷一座，意在激励西南模学子紧追日晷针脚步，有与时俱进的理念，有只争朝夕的精神，有敢于创新的勇毅，有不断超越的追求。
Sundials, one of the major inventions in the field of astronomical timing, are ancient horologes used to measure time applying shadows casting by the sun in ancient China. The sundial stands in the north of the campus, intending to motivate students to keep in step with times, to make full use of every day, to be brave to innovate and to hold the pursuit to surpass their limits.

西南模校歌镌刻在翻开的白色大理石书页上，陈放在以高大雪松林为背景的平坦草坪中，显得庄重大方。校歌以雄劲刚健的旋律，坚定有力的节奏，显示了西南模学子朝气蓬勃、奋发向上的精神风貌，抒发了“谱写中华崛起的崭新篇章”的凌云壮志，表达了“今日少年，明日必成社会栋梁”的坚定信念。
The lyrics of Southwest Model School anthem are carved into the white marble which is shaped into an open book. The marble is laid on the smooth lawn with the background of tall pine trees, solemn and elegant. The melody of the school anthem is vigorous with strong and firm rhymes, representing the positive spirit of vigor and vitality of the students, showing the soaring aspirations to compose new chapters in the rise of China and expressing the firm belief that the juvenile today will become the pillars of society tomorrow.

用大片金色的叶子装饰校门中心，寓意有四：
一、“金叶”年华。“金”与“兢”音近，“叶”与“业”谐音，“金叶”即兢业。在西南模读书，就要兢兢业业，那兢业的年华才值得骄傲。
二、“金心”耕耘。“金”与“尽”音似，“金心”可称尽心，学习只有全神贯注用尽心力，人生方能枝繁叶茂，硕果累累。
三、“叶金”行成。“金”如读成“精”，“叶金”不就是业精？“业精于勤，荒于嬉；行于思，毁于随。” 业欲精，行欲成，勤学加多思。
四、“饰叶”成金，饰与“事”同音，“饰叶”能读成事业。只要我们发奋努力，就一定能成就金色的事业。
The main school gate is decorated with four golden leaves, the moral of which is as follows:
First, “Golden Leaves” years. In Chinese language, the character “golden” shares the same pronunciation with another character ‘jin” while “leave” shares the same pronunciation with the character “ye”. The combination of “jin” and “ye” means being cautious and conscientious. Students admitted into Southwest Model Middle School should study with the spirit of cautiousness and conscientiousness, and the years of cautiousness and conscientiousness are the achievements to be proud of.
Second, “Golden Heart” cultivation. The Chinese character “golden” pronounces similarly to “jin”, so “golden heart” sounds like “jin xin”, which means getting things accomplished whole-heartedly. Only through concentration and efforts can our life be thriving and fruitful.
Third, “golden leaves” form appropriate deeds. If the character “golden” is pronounced as “jing”, then “golden leaves” reads “ ye jing”. “Achievement is found on diligence and wasted upon recklessness. A deed is accomplished through thoughts and fails through a lack of thought.” If we seek great achievements and noble deeds, we ought to study more diligently and think more thoughtfully.
Fourth, “ornamental leaves” turn into gold. The Chinese character “ornament” reads “shi”, and therefore “ornamental leaves” reads “shi ye”, which means career. As long as we work with stamina and diligence, we are sure to achieve a golden career.

醒目的西南模范校徽雕刻在硕大的彩玉石上，赫然耸立在校门北侧，显得典雅、高贵。
校徽的外形由盾和绶带组成，整洁，大方。盾从钢笔头变化而来，绶带意为教育事业是至高、至上的事业。盾的最上部有校名“西南模范”，下面有1997字样，标示公元1997年建校。
校徽图案主体为“鼎”。“鼎”在古代被视为立国重器，是国家和权力的象征；在现代是文明的见证，文化的载体，象征着和平、发展、昌盛。“鼎”字也被赋予显赫、尊贵、盛大之意，采用鼎的形状寓意西南模范中学发展昌盛，世人瞩目。
以汉篆书写“模范”二字组成稳重、大气的“模范鼎”，意蕴每个西南模人都应传承发扬 “模范教育”理念，把“振兴中华”、“争做模范”作为人生最宝贵的鼎铭记于心。
“鼎”还含有“革故鼎新”之意。在新的历史时期，西南模要科学发展，必须破除禁锢，勇于创新，西南模的明天才会更加灿烂。
“模范鼎”在一椭圆之中，椭圆意为地球。寓意西南模范中学必将鼎足于世界先进教育之苑。
校徽图案主色调采用象征激情与向上的红色和象征收获与成功的金黄色，意味着在充满活力的西南模范学习工作，必定能收获成功。
The remarkable school emblem is carved into the chromatic jade, lying to the north of the school gate, noble and elegant.
The shape of the school emblem is composed of a shield and ribbons, looking neat and elegant. The shield is derived from a pen head. Ribbons represent the supreme education. The name of the school is designed on the top of the emblem while the number 1997 is designed at the bottom, which means Southwest Model Middle School was established in 1997.
The main pattern is a “Ding”. A “Ding” was regarded as the symbol of dynasty in ancient China, representing the national power. A “Ding” now is considered as the witness of modern civilization and the carrier of culture, symbolizing peace, development and prosperity. The character “Ding” is given the meaning of being prominent, noble and grand. The adoption of taking the shape of a “Ding” as the school emblem is to imply a prosperous development of Southwest Model Middle School.
The shape of the “Ding” is filled up with two Han seal characters “Mo Fan”, which means model or exemplary. The tremendous Model Ding is the precious tripod in each and every person’s mind in Southwest Model Middle School, promoting and maintaining “special exemplary education”. Every student bears in mind that one should become a model in the future.
The “Ding” in the school emblem also conveys the meaning of discarding the old and establishing the new. In the new historical period, in order to develop scientifically, our school must shake off all shackles, unleash the courage to bring forth new ideas, and seek for a bright and colorful future.
“The Model Ding” is designed in the midst of an ellipse - the earth, carrying the meaning that Southwest Model Middle School will take hold in the career of world education.
The primary colors of the pattern are red, which symbolizes passion and initiative, and golden color, which symbolizes harvest and success. The two colors imply that anyone who works and studies in Southwest Model Middle School is bound to succeed.

在一块原生态的大青石上，一本石书赫然凸现，镌凿有西南模的《教师之歌》，仿佛天授玉成，有鬼斧神工之妙。雕塑造型意蕴“去璞现玉，琢玉成器”，象征教师的天职就是开掘天资、育人成才。为了表现教师虽“整日辛劳”仍“无怨无悔”的高尚品质和无私情怀，曲作者在传统民族音乐素材中，融进了时代的旋律，质朴、洒脱的曲调，蕴含着脉脉温情，配合歌词营造出舒缓、优美的意境，击节吟唱，常令人感动不已。
On a piece of original bluestone appears a stone book carved with the teachers’ song of the Southwest Model Middle School, otherworldly wonderful as if bestowed by heaven. The shape of the sculpture not only implies that jade comes out from unpolished gem, from which forms implements but also carries the meaning that the teachers’ responsibility is to discover gift and educate talents. In order to express teachers’ selflessness and noble qualities that they work hard without complaint, the composer melted the melody of the era into the traditional ethnic music elements. The simple, free and easy melody reflects the warmth and gratitude, creating a soothing and graceful mood. When singing with the rhythm, we are often touched by the wonderful melody.

When you walk into the campus, the first thing that catches your eyes is the big screen. This big digital screen, which makes visitors stop and gaze, reports fresh news and updates in the campus, focuses on current events and newsletters, captures touching moments, showcases vigor and vitality, concerns about significant dynamic changes in teaching and conveys sincere feelings between students and teachers. 清晨，阳光洒到窗台，书声徜徉在林荫两旁；傍晚，夕阳照在林间，笑声回荡在小径前后。鹅卵石铺路，花木草夹道，斑驳的树影，掩映座座木条长凳。常有师生在此小憩，或促膝谈心，或坐而论道，或怀想未来，或三省吾身，师生浓情的暖意交织着智慧碰撞的火花，肩负家国天下的重任萦绕着静心澄志的深邃思考。朗朗书声与风言树语，氤氲着小径“静心澄志”的氛围，会令人流连忘返。
The Trail of Steel Will
Early morning, the sunshine sprinkles onto the window sill with the sound of reading aloud resounding along the tree-lined sides. At dusk, the setting sun is shining between the trees with the sound of laughter echoing back and forth along the trail. The trail is paved with cobblestones, with trees, flowers and grass lying around, shadowing several wooden benches. Often, teachers and students are taking a rest here, having a heart-to-heart talk, sitting and discussing teaching methods, free-thinking about the future or conducting self-reflection. The warmth of the passion between teachers and students are intertwined with the collision sparks of wisdom. The important tasks nationwide shouldered are lingering in deep thinking. The sound of reading aloud and the whispers from the trees and wind mist the atmosphere of stabilizing mind and still will along the trail, making people stay and forget to leave.

在修贤路与静思路交汇处的面南草坪上，有一块花岗岩巨石。上面镌刻着“西南模”三个鲜红的大字，提醒来往的师生，牢记西南模精神，时刻心系国家，胸怀天下，爱校荣校，尽职尽责。它是校园寄忆石，承载了西南模人对学校的美好回忆；它是校园守护石，守护校训精神与校园文化；它是校园荣耀石，激励每一个西南模人奋勇前行。“磐石方且厚，可以卒千年”，校铭石永驻西南模人心中！
The School Inscription Granite
On the southern lawn between Xiu Xian Road and Jing Si Road lies a giant granite. Three big bright red characters inscribed on the stone remind the teachers and students coming and going of the spirit of the school, which is to show consideration of our country, hold feelings of passion for the country, love the school and glorify the school, and work and study with due diligence. Members of the school pin their memories on the stone, which bears the wonderful memories to the school. It is the guardian stone of the school, safeguarding the school motto spirit and school culture. It is the glory stone of the school, motivating each and every one of the school member to move forward courageously. “A rock is upright and firm, and can be stored over thousands of years.” The school inscription granite will live forever in the members of our school!
